Focusing Controlled Sensitivity of Geophysical Data
نویسنده
چکیده
Different geophysical surveys have a specific sensitivity to geological targets, determined by the physical nature of the observed geophysical field, the design of the data acquisition system, and the configuration and type of the source of the recorded data. The sensitivity is usually limited to some part of the examined geological formation, located relatively close to the sensors. This paper introduces a concept of controlled sensitivity, which enables the sensitivity of a geophysical data to be increased within a specific target area of a geological formation. In particular, this method can be used to increase the sensitivity of the data with the depth. The developed approach is demonstrated with a numerical study of the sensitivity of marine Towed Streamer Electro-Magnetic (TSEM) surveys. However, a general mathematical formulation of the method, presented in this paper, makes it possible to apply the developed technique to a wide variety of geophysical data. *Corresponding author: Michael S. ModEM: A modular system for inversion of electromagnetic geophysical data
We describe implementation of a modular system of computer codes for inversion of electromagnetic geophysical data, referred to as ModEM. The system is constructed with a fine level of modular granularity, with basic components of the inversion – forward modeling, sensitivity computations, inversion search algorithms, model parametrization and regularization, data functionals – interchangeable,...
متن کاملGeostatistical Modeling of Electrical Resistivity Tomography for Imaging Porphyry Cu Mineralization in Takht-e-Gonbad Deposit, Iran
This work presents the application of a geostatistical-based modeling approach for building up electrical properties acquired from a geophysical electrical tomography survey deployed for the purpose of porphyry Cu exploration at the Takht-e-Gonbad deposit, in the central domain of Iran. Electrical data were inverted in 2D along several profiles across the main favorable zones of Cu-bearing mine...
متن کاملGeostatistical estimation to delineate oxide and sulfide zones using geophysical data; a case study of Chahar Bakhshi vein-type gold deposit, NE Iran
Delineation of oxide and sulfide zones in mineral deposits, especially in gold deposits, is one of the most essential steps in an exploration project that has been traditionally carried out using the drilling results. Since in most mineral exploration projects there is a limited drilling dataset, application of geophysical data can reduce the error in delineation of the sulfide and oxide zones....
متن کاملGeological noise removal in geophysical magnetic survey to detect unexploded ordnance based on image filtering
This paper describes the application of three straightforward image-based filtering methods to remove the geological noise effect which masks unexploded ordnances (UXOs) magnetic signals in geophysical surveys. Three image filters comprising of mean, median and Wiener are used to enhance the location of probable UXOs when they are embedded in a dominant background geological noise. The study ar...
